Why Aluminum Branch Wiring Needs Attention
Many homes built or renovated in the 1960s and 1970s contain single-strand aluminum branch-circuit wiring. Aluminum expands, contracts, and oxidizes differently than copper. At incompatible or poorly made connections, that movement can increase resistance, generate heat, damage devices, and create a fire risk.
What an AlumiConn Upgrade Does
An AlumiConn connector joins the existing aluminum conductor to a short copper pigtail using separate ports and manufacturer-specified torque. The copper pigtail then connects to the receptacle, switch, or fixture. This avoids placing aluminum wire directly on devices that are not approved for it.
